Ruff
Stuff - A WWII Pilot's Story - Major Norbert C. Ruff. When Japan
bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States was caught
with
her
pants
down.
With the
war in
Europe,
the
US government
was sending all its resources to that theatre, so in the early years
of the war with Japan, our servicemen in the South Pacific were short
on supplies, planes and men. Most men were issued WWI helmets, gas
masks, rations and many times guns. One such man was First Lieutenant
Norbert C. Ruff who graduated from Flight School on December 6, 1941.
Within a month, he was in Australia and then New Guinea fighting
the Japanese. This book describes the early days of the war with
Japan,
what these men went through and honors Norb's comrades who did not
make it back. It also covers Norb's life, including his time flying
the first jet the Bell P-59 and F-80."

When
Sylvestor VanLoon and Rev. William Priddy first set foot on the area
known as Bloomer's Prairie, little did they know that 150 years later
the little village they created would be a thriving, growing city.
Through
the roaming of animals in the streets, to floods that nearly wiped
out Old Main Street, to the end of logging, through diphtheria and
flu epidemics
that took the lives of many, many citizens, to fires, depression
and prohibition, Bloomer changed with the times and survived when
many villages
failed, their names wiped off the face of the maps.
Not to depict the rich history for Bloomer's Sesquicentennial, would
be a crime. During the writing of this book, I have been constantly
amazed at the tenacity of the people of Bloomer. This book has been
a joy to write, getting to know those people as they struggled to
make
Bloomer what it is today.
